Ground source heat is derived from the earth. The heat collector cables get laid out 1 meter underneath the earth surface. The collected heat is transferred via ground source heat pump into the heat collector inside the building. Ground source heat requires electrical power, but it uses only 25 percent of electric power to derive 4 times the amount of heat. Thus, ground source heat is highly energy efficient and can be used in connection with green building program, and can help earn a green building (LEED) accreditation.
